From summer will enter the market the next generation of S6, S7 and S6 Avant, which become the most powerful in their respective ranges thanks to a modern 420-horsepower V8, characterized by the roll-off system. Inevitably, the ‘downsizing’ also comes to high performance sedans.
We have seen cases as significant as that BMW has been praised for its atmospheric V10 in favor of a V8 biturbo in the M5, with a successful result, it improves performance and reduces fuel consumption. Audi has opted for a similar formula, although with some special feature. For versions of the A6 and A7 S is chosen to use a 420 hp V8, rather than the previous V105.2 liters. The latter version was offered in air for S6 and RS6 for turbocharged (direct rival M5 previously mentioned).
A magical engine
Both the S6 as in the S6 Avant or S7 uses a V8 is a bit special. Has a system that switches off the cylinders 2, 3, 5 and8 toonce, when the load is medium or low throttle and the car moves from third gear. Converts well in specific situations to a V8 into a V4, with the consumer benefits that entails. To address the increase in vibration and sound when moving from full-or half engine, this system has had to supplement with a combination of active engine mounts, which generate a “contravibraciones” and an active control of sound, which emitted through the car speakers a “antisonido” to simulate the same frequency noise when the car is in V8.
